GLib is a library containing many useful C routines for things such as trees, hashes, and lists. GLib was previously distributed with the GTK toolkit, but has been split off as of the developers' version 1.1.0.

This is the first development release leading up to GLib 2.18, which will be source and binary compatible with the GLib 2.16 series. Updates were made to Unicode 5.1, to libcharset from libiconv 0.12, and to PCRE to 7.7. FEN was introduced for file monitoring in GIO on Solaris. Several new functions were added. Many bugs were fixed. Translations were updated.
