SafeSquid is a content filtering proxy server. It supports 'profiled' Internet access, a browser based interface, very fast throughput, DNS caching, content caching, pre-fetching, bandwidth control, virus scanning, ICP, CARP, and ICAP clients, source, target, and time-based granular firewall style rules to allow or deny content like music, videos, Flash and Java applets, messengers, chats, cookies, ActiveX, scripts, etc., remote authentication, real-time text and image analysis for blocking pornography, and an URL filter.

Memory management has been improved. Memory is now aggressively tested for reliability. Overall error reporting has been improved. Erratic performance when transporting gzip compressed content has been fixed. Problems when ulimit was raised beyond 1024 concurrent files has been fixed. Logging of usernames is now changed to reflect the IP address of the user. A new plug-in was added in the install package for better integration with the Sawmill log analyzer. Changes were made to effectively deal with logfile rotation.
