The ATLAS (Automatically Tuned Linear Algebra Software) project is an ongoing research effort focusing on applying empirical techniques in order to provide portable performance. It provides C and Fortran77 interfaces to a portably efficient BLAS implementation, as well as a few routines from LAPACK.

In this release some documentation was updated, configure bugs on
Itanium and SunOS platforms were fixed, MAXALLOC was increased
to better support CacheEdge detection, the non-portable equates
operator was replaced with a generic function, config's handling of
32/64 compiler flags was rewritten to be more robust, USIII
architectural defaults and config support was added, and atlas_devel
and atlas_contrib were updated to the latest code.
